ARC Canada Ready to Lead in New Brunswick Technology Development

Saint John, New Brunswick – On Tuesday, November 17, 2020, the Government of New Brunswick (GNB) delivered its Speech from the Throne during the first session of the 60th Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick. The session opens in the midst of unprecedented times, however delivered an optimistic message to New Brunswickers.

Included in the message from the throne was a commitment towards energizing the private sector and the environment.

The speech recognized that Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) have tremendous potential to generate safe, clean, and low-cost energy for both on-grid and off-grid communities. As noted, developing SMRs right here at home and achieving just 1 percent of the estimated Canadian market would mean 190 million in annual direct and indirect impacts to New Brunswick.

ARC Canada’s approach aligns with the government’s vision to re-activate New Brunswick’s underutilized supply chain. The ARC Canada supply chain and manufacturing development initiative opens a worldwide market to an exporting opportunity that will bring revenue back to New Brunswick. “We are encouraged by the New Brunswick Government’s acknowledgement of the role SMRs could play in the energy needs of the future,” says ARC Canada President & CEO, Norman JD Sawyer. “The potential of this emerging technology is tremendous and New Brunswick has been identified as having all the key pillars for success.” Sawyer continues, “ARC Canada is proud to have made its home here,” says the New Brunswick native.

The Province renewed its commitment to more renewables and non-emitting technologies for energy. The government stated that New Brunswick can develop technology that will put our province – and our entire country – back on the map as a global emissions reduction leader.

Like the Government of New Brunswick, ARC Canada continues its commitment towards Indigenous participation as seen in the recent sponsorship and participation by the company’s CEO in the First Nations Power Authority (FNPA) National SMR Forum this week. Along side the province, ARC Canada encourages partnerships, and understanding and addressing employment challenges with the Indigenous People to achieve business reconciliation.

With this opportunity in mind, ARC Canada will be holding its 2nd Supply Chain Event, hosted by the Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters (CME) next week.
